Autoevaluacion
Mi motivacion (My motivation)
I want to learn Spanish because of it's practicality and use. I could use my own knowledge of the language to help people understand one another and I could use it to understand English more. It is a very practical language to learn right now, as many countries have Spanish speaking people. Also, in the United States the number of Spanish speaking people is growing larger all the time. When searching for a job being bilingual is a quality many employers look for. I am learning Spanish for it's logical use.
My goal for the year is to get an A in Spanish 1 and 2. My goal for the near future is to be able to understand Spanish. What I would like to get out of this class long term would be to continue speaking Spanish for the rest of my life.
My self evaluation quarter 1
What am I learning in Spanish class? We are learning many things in class, in the chapters we have covered we can now introduce ourselves and talk about what we like and dislike. We can discuses class schedules and tell time. We know the different forms of the verb ser and we are learning about conjugations. We are learning about a number of different verbs and adjective words.
How do I learn? I learn best through activities and note taking. I think review games worksheets that we do help me to learn, and the thing I like most about this class is it forces me to do flash cards, I learn really well with these. I also enjoy all the group activities we do and the time we spend going over definitions and doing motions along with them.
Why am I learning? First off, let's start with the obvious, I am learning to get a good grade and obtain my honors credit for school. On a different note though, I am learning Spanish because it is a practical language to have knowledge of and be able to use. Spanish has a lot of real world applications and uses.
Where am I in progress towards my goals? I am (hopefully) going to get an A in Spanish 1 for this 9 weeks. I am working towards being able to communicate in Spanish, I hope one day soon i can hold a conversation with some of my friends in Spanish 3! I plan to continue Spanish for at least the rest of high school, and am seriously thinking about minoring in Spanish or another foreign language in college.
My self evaluation quarter 2
What am I learning in Spanish class? Since I last wrote, we have covered many more chapters including how to introduce ourselves and others, how to make plans and extend invitations, how to reject or accept those invitations, and all about food. We learn new vocabulary everyday and still rely on the old vocabulary. Something new I have learned from reading El Zorro is I know more than I think. We have also been learning about more verb conjugations and types of weather.
How do I learn? I learn well through listening and taking notes. I still hold by the flash cards and believe they help me immensely. I like the review games and activities we do before tests. I enjoy group projects and like doing videos. I love the definition slides and motions we do. While I do not like homework, I understand that it helps me learn and review.
Why am I learning? I am learning Spanish because it is a useful tool to have. It is one of the most spoken languages in the world and is a good skill to have as a future employee. As of late I have discovered it is also a fun language to learn and these days I am learning Spanish because it is something I enjoy. I continue to learn Spanish because continue to learn because of it's practicality, but also enjoyment.
Where am I in process to my goals? Well, I did get an A in Spanish 1 for the first nine weeks, and I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to hold a conversation about food with a Spanish 3 friend! I still plan to continue onto Spanish 3 and would like to major or minor in Spanish in college. I have new goals now, like being able to read or speak fluently in Spanish. Another goal I have sat for myself is to continue speaking Spanish, if I never go on to take it in college, on a daily basis so I don't lose the ability to speak it.
Compare and contrast interpersonal distance in your life and a Spanish speaker's.
According to Hall, Mexicans have the closest interpersonal space, and Americans have a middle amount. In my own life, this is also true. I can name the number of people I hug on greeting on one hand. I have grown up with a lot of space and my family is not to big on hugs and the like.
In the article it says Spanish speakers have a small interpersonal space, knowing the geography of their country, and the amount of space they have, along with the larger (on average) size of a family living in one house-hold has to do with this. The Spanish interpersonal distance is much, much smaller than my own. The kiss on greeting is one thing that is extremely different. If someone can up to me and kissed me as a greeting, or even hugged me, i consider it a violation of my personal space.
While there are many differences between my interpersonal distance and a Spanish speakers, there are also some similarities. One of the similarities is when comforting people. I think nearly everyone has a close interpersonal distance when attempting to comfort people.
There are many differences, and some similarities between interpersonal distance in a Spanish speaker's life and my own.
